Silicone candle molds are made from a soft rubber and usually are quite easy to use when candle making.

Molds for candles can be found in your own kitchen from recycled items like plastic yogurt containers, film containers and even Pringles potato chip cans. These recycled molds will usually last for one use or very few. The best types of molds to use are specially made for candlemaking and can be found in most craft supplies stores, candle supplies stores or online with many other candlemaking supplies. Silicone candlemaking molds are one-style as well as reusable high temperature plastic and metal molds.

A silicone candle mold is made from a soft rubber and usually is quite easy to use when candlemaking. When proper care is taken for these silicone molds, you should get to make many candles. Do not over stretch the rubber mold when trying to remove the set candle because they do have a tear point. Do not stack the molds on top of each other or allow them to lose their shape. It is best to store them in a plastic bag when not in use to prevent them from drying out and turning color. Always make sure your mold is clean and dry before adding any wax for molding. The mold can be cleaned with warm water and soap. Using a non-silicone release powder will help your mold last longer but is not usually necessary and is also available with the other candle supplies you will need.

When using a candle mold always make sure your wax is poured at the right temperature, if too hot the mold may melt. On average the best pouring temperature for silicone and most other molds is 180 F to 190 F. Always make sure you are using the proper type of wax for the type of candles you are making. Some waxes have a higher melting point, the lower the melting point the faster the candles burn and liquefy, so be sure you have the appropriate wax.
