Candle making supplies may not always be obvious.
Most candle making supplies are obvious when attempting to make candles for the first time. Here are few things that may make things a little easier when attempting to start your candlemaking project: Newspaper to cover your workspace, a double boiler to melt the wax, (make one by using a large metal can or an old coffee pot and placing it in water in a large pot or roasting pan), a candy or meat thermometer, oven mitts for removing pots from water, old knife for scoring the wax, measuring spoons for scent, potato peeler for shaving dye, large spoon for stirring, pliers for crimping wick clips and you may even need some old cookie or baking pans.
When starting a candlemaking project read the instructions and or recipe first. Sometimes the candle you are making will need additives and release agents, especially when making molded candles. Another good idea would be to design or draw out what you would like your candlemaking project to look like.
Your basic candle supplies should be the wax, gel, paraffin, beeswax and or soy wax, candle scent, candle dye, wick, wick clip, molds or containers and then some form of an accessory. These accessories can be anything from fire resistant embeds for gel candles to paint, shapes and designs for solid wax candles. An accessory could also be the plate, candlestick, or container in which the candle will burn. If you are a beginner candle maker it may be wise to purchase candlemaking kits. Candle making kits have everything you will need to start your first project. Once you are well under way with more candle making projects you will then need to purchase more supplies or kits. Candle making supplies and kits can be purchased on line or at any craft supply store.
